Attached is a summary of sound level monitoring conducted at 1646 Via Concion,
San Marcos, from June 11, 1982 through June 14, 1982. The monitoring was con-
ducted at the request of JanetFrahmto determine noise levels produced by the
Carlsbad Raceway. Drag racing was indicated as the major noise producer, how-
ever, during the monitoring period, there were no instances of use of the loud
dragsters.
Sound levels monitored were relatively quiet and typical of a rural area, except
for two incidents. On both Friday and Saturday evenings, the sound levels were
elevated for several minutes at approximately 8:lO p.m. and caused an hourly
average sound level of 57 decibels. It is possible that the noise could have
been produced by the drag strip, but further monitoring would be necessary to
reach a definitive conclusion.
Monitoring results were discussed with Mrs.Frahmand Mike Holtzmiller of City
Staff. It was decided that Mr. Holtzmiller would take noise readings during a
noisy event and re-contact me to discuss his findings. Apparently further
noise monitoring has not been conducted, but is necessary to determine facts
concerning noise impact caused by the raceway.
