Dear Ms. Welshons:
In regard to your review of the Pilgrim School Conditional Use Permit scheduled for July 2nd, we
urge you to consider the 23 years of positive impact this unique multi-faith, multi-racial, low-income
sensitive preschool has had on numerous Carlsbad citizens and their children. Additionally, we urge
you to personally visit Pilgrim School to see first-hand the academic excellence, social consciousness
and loving care being administered at this facility.
Our son, Drew, has attended Pilgrim for 3% years. We chose Pilgrim after extensive review and
facility visits of several preschools in San Diego County. Our choice has been rewarded by having
a son who is now ready to advance into the primary grades with such a positive attitude towards
education and educators his chances of academic and social success in life are extremely high.
We believe Pilgrim School should have it's Conditional Use Permit retained without any mitigating
requirements being imposed.
The financial burden of installing a concrete block wall with extensive footing and retaining walls
will surely negatively impact the mission of this fine educational facility. What would be the financial
impact to the City of Carlsbad and itsschool district if all of the Parks and Schools were required to
surround themselves with ten-foot high block walls to mitigate the sounds of children playing?
Please consider this matter carefully. Pilgrim Preschool can ill-afford a wrong decision.
Sincerely yours,
EAP/amk
