Dear Mr. Compas:
I am writing to express my concern over the Planning Commission's upcoming decision
regarding the Conditional Use Permit for Pilgrim's Children's Center and the situation
with Mr. Vallely. First of all, as a parent of two small children, I don't have a lot of time
for letter writing; but in this case I will make an exception.
Pilgrim Childreds Center is a crucial part of our community, providing a loving, nurturing
as well as educational environment for our children. To be burdened by the unfair
demands of a neighbor who moved in and remodeled after knowing the children's center
was there is reprehensible. The school and the church provide support in a countless
variety of ways (directly and indirectly) for the community, while Mr. Vallely attempts to
rob them of what little income they have (I know because I have been involved in many
fund raisers). If Mr. Vallely could afford to remodel his house adding a master bedroom,
why can't he afford to build a wall or plant shrubs, and why didn't he think of these things
first? Why hasn't he communicated more with the school and the church, they have
indicated that they are willing to try and solve some of the noise problems?
I think I can go on and on with more of these questions, but the bottom line is that I am
writing to defend the school. Since my daughter has attended Pilgrim I have found all of
the staff to be kind and attentive and always willing to have an objective discussion. Mr.
Vallely probably has his side of the story, but I am doubtful of his integrity since he moved
to this residence knowing there was a school adjacent to his property. Let's be accountable
for our actions Mr. Vallely, and let's pass that lesson down to our children since it seems to
have skipped a couple of generations.
