Dear Bill Compas,
As the longest residents on Charleen Circle (almost 33 years) we can share history of
the property at Chestnut and Monroe. The church purchased the property in 1964 and
used the house and garage for 3 years, until the sanctuary was built in 1967.
Before the Children’s Center was constructed in 1973 all of the neighbors within a block or more were visited and shown the floor plan and elevation and the purpose of
the building and its uses. 100% of all property owners signed a petition supporting the church’s plans. When the public hearing was conducted on the C.U.P. there was no opposition and several spoke in favor.
Soon after the Day Care Center was opened in September 1973 it had over 100
children enrolled. It operated from 6:30 am to 6:OO pm for the convenience of parents
with long working hours.
With the exception of the Bakers and Helen Wolenchuk ALL of the families in the
neighborhood have moved in since the Center opened.
In the intervening years children of families on Charleen Circle adjacent to the Day
Care Center have been happily enrolled in the Center, either full time or the pre-
school program.
We would support the renewal of the C.U.P. with no additional restrictions.
