It has come to our attention that a neighbor of the Center, Dwight Valelly, has come before the Commission complaining of noise from the school. It is well documented that Mr. Valelly moved into his home after the center was doing its good work and thus was aware that the children laugh and play and carry on during the day. Certainly the burden of due diligence was on him to inspect the neighborhood and weigh his purchase and any future plans in light of the existing composition of the neighborhood. He began to complain only after remodeling, adding a new bedroom to the side of his home neare'st the school. He complained that the clean up crew makes excessive noise in the evening when going about their rounds. We have been at the school in the evenings and these are the least cantankerous clean up people you might meet but no doubt there are certain noises that go along with cleaning up. Regardless, the ombudsman for the parent church has attempted to relieve Mr. Valelly in his grievance. First he agreed to meet then cancelled and since has made himself scarce. He has made it apparent that he doesn't want to discuss this or work it out, what he wants is for the Center to build him an expensive wall. Mr. Valelly's motivation is transparent. And in a perfect world where fences are free I'm sure the Center would love to oblige him. But the reality is the Center operates on a close margin, supports quite a few of its students in times of financial crisis (including our own family for four months) and a block wall fence would work an extreme . hardship on the school and the children and families it serves. i c 2 We hope you'll recognize Mr. Valelly's motivation for what it is and redirect him to finding resolution in a less expensive way. We can't afford an increase in tuition or worse, if block wall fever infects the neighborhood, loss of the school. ( JC and R\a Whitted
