Dear Mu. Plender:
The purpose of this letter is to apprise you, on an informal basis, of a problen
which confronts our company that will have a temporary effect on our hours of
operation. We have recently received follow on orders for large amounts of base
materials from several of our contractor customers. These additional orders are
under existing contracts t’lat we have with these customers, and the materials are
being u::e%for road ccnstruction in the Tri-City area and in Escondido. Several
of the orders involve federally funded projects that are subject to rigorous inspec-
tion and consequently must be made to exa.cting specifications -
not economically obtain these base materials , in the specif icat.j.ons required , else-
where, and we do not wish to risk the economic burdens that would accrce to us by
reasor, of nonperformance or nondelivery.
We have been operating our rock crushing plact to its maximum capacity €or the past
six months, within the self-imposed restrictiong of 6:OO a.m. to 6:OO p.m. six days
per week. Out of consideration for our neighbors we have not sought to install a
two shift operation that is sixteen hours per day, however, because of the afore-
mentioned demands for materials we will find it necessary to extend the hours of
operation of our rock plant up to 8:OO p.m. on a temporary basis. Hopefully, this
emergency situation will last only until January 15, 1977, or approximately two weeks.
As soon as we have produced sufficient materials to fill these orders we will revert
back to a twelve hour per day operation, and as quickly as the overall demand for
base and asphaltic materials declines, we will return to a more nomtal eight hour
per day schedule.
In no event will the 1onger.hours be used in our parry operation. The only part
of our operation that will be affected is our rock crushing division which is, as
you know, located entirely in the City of Carlsbad and permitted by Carlsbad with
no restrictions as to hours of operation.
