SUBJECT: DC 02-02 - GEISSINGER DAYCARE
The City has completed a review of the application for a Large Family Day Care Permit for
development located at 3016 Highland Drive.
It is the Planning Director’s determination that the project is NOT consistent with the City’s
Child Day Care regulations (Chapter 21.83) and with other applicable City ordinances and
policies. The Planning Director, therefore, DENIES this request based on the following:
Based on information from Peter Taylor to the City’s Fire Inspector, on March 12, 2002, the
facility will be used for educational instruction for children grades 1 to 6 during the hours of 9 to
5. The City’s Zoning Ordinance requires approval of a Conditional Use Permit for any public or
private school. Establishment of a private school under the guise of a large family day care is not
permitted. Furthermore, the City’s Child Care Ordinance (Chapter 21.83) specifically prohibits
public or private elementary schools in the definition of “Child Day Care Facility”.
If this is not the intent of your family day care proposal, then please revise your project
description to show that school age children will only receive before andor after day care at the
home. Children pre-school age or younger may be cared for during the entire hours of operation.
