PALOMAR TRANSFER STATION INTRODUCTION The Palomar Transfer Station has operated as an integral part of the solid waste disposal system in the North County since 1977. This facility facilitates the handling of residential & commercial waste, as well as recyclables. Solid waste collected at the facility is transferred to trailers for final disposal at area landfills. The County of San Diego (Airport Division) is the property owner of the transfer station site. The City of Carlsbad leases the site from the County, which then sublets the site to Palomar Transfer Station, Inc. (a wholly owned subsidiary of Allied Waste Industries, Inc.). In addition to waste transfer, the facility also includes a recycling/buy-back center, which will be expanded to include a waste oil-recycling component. Green materials such as yard and landscape clippings are also collected to be processed and recycled into mulch and alternative landfill cover.
