Dear Friends & Netghbors,
As I’m sure you’re aware, we all received notice of a Planning Commission meting
on Wednesday, January 3,2001 to consider rczc nhg the Seaside Bistro & neq$hring
property for residential uses. If this adon is suc>xssful, it could ultimately lead to the . issuarice of a Notice of Abatement by the Carlsbid City Council, forcing the Bistro to shut
its doors.
Since X have only lived hat a little over a year, it is hard fbr me to make a case for
bow much things haw changed since the Bistro :estNctured its hours of operation, remove
the stage, etc. You have a much dearer perspeclive as to how things have improved ova
the past several years.
The fact of the matter L, 1 that the Seaside Bistro is an integral part of our nclghborhood and community, and one of the rtasons our location is so desirable. Where
else can one walk to get a cup of coffke, a newspaper. a bite to eat or something to drink? In
my opinion, the highest and best purpose of the .3ktro property is to be a place we all can
gakr and meet with fiends and neighbors, not a place for a f;tw exclusive condominiums
(or other expensive housing) that serves only the wealthiest portion of the City’s populace.
That is why I am asldng fix your support at the coming Planning Commission
meeting. I intend to speak, but my single voice is not nearly enough to sway the juggernaut
of City politics. As members of our naghborlmd and community, I kl it is our duty to
support this local business by appCaring at the medug, and speaking our mind. Our united voice as neighbors of the Seaside Bistro have th: strongest chance of oveztlMing this
course of events.
In closing, I call on all of us as memb of the commuojfy to attend the planning
Commission mteting Wednesday, January 3@ a : 6 P.M. in the City Cound chambers at 1200 Carlsbad Village Drive. We need to fill tht: council chamber with like-minded individuals that share OUT views and Opinions. How will elected officials know that they are not acting in the interests of their constituents if we do not make OUT voices heard? This is
our time to make a difkencc and take a leadas lip role m our community--don’t let it slip
away.
