Please be assured that the requirement for screening of rooftop equipment has been applied as a standard condition to all planned industrial permits approved in the last 8-9 years. Implementation of the screening requirement has contributed to developing the high quality corporate image that surely played a role in your decision to locate in Carlsbad. I have asked Anne Hysong to work with your design people to resolve the screening issue. I understand your concern regarding the potential cost of the screening. Therefore, it will be necessary for your design team to develop innovate screening that is not cost prohibitive and that at the same time maintains Carlsbad's high standard of design. I too look forward to a quick resolution of the screening issue so that Upper Deck can receive final occupancy and begin business. If you have any questions about this letter, please do not hesitate to contact me. Regarding the screening issue, all questions should be addressed to Anne Hysong of the Planning Department. Sincerely, CITY OF CARLSBAD &TI LN&+y+. We feel it is critical to have a strong relationship with the community, and I believe you and your organization have opened the door to enhancing our long-term relationship. I specifically wanted to mention your Planning Director, Michael Holzmiller and Assistant Planner, Anne Hysong, who have been of tremendous help. I believe we can resolve the equipment screen issue to our mutual benefit and satisfaction. As the building is so gorgeous, we do not believe the screens would enhance its overall appearance and, at this point, would be extremely cost prohibitive. We will be working with your Planning Department to resolve the problem and, again, thank you for your assistance. We all look forward to the day when we can open the doors of Upper Deck in Carlsbad. Sincerely, THE UPPER DECK COMPANY PresidenVChief Executive Officer P.S. We're looking at doing the NFL Quarterback Challenge at La Costa in the Summer of '92. Hope you can join us.
