Attached is a copy of my work sheets for the slope/
vegetation-type/area calculations. Given the inherent level
of detail in the slope map, we (as you can tell form the
various notes scattered on the drawings) adjusted the
vegetation at the same level of detail. The computed areas
for Southern Maritime Chaparral and Disturbed CSS on
25% or greater slopes are still over estimates, however. If
we had gone back into the field to prepare this the areas
involved would be reduced by more fine scale mapping of
the vegetation, mapping consistent with the order of
magnitude mapping of the slopes.
We computed area the crude way - square counts - given
the extremely small areas involved, the inherent inaccuracy
in planimeters at that scale, and the fact that this is not a
CAD file. The accuracy, however, exceeds the error factor
in the underlying slope calculations.
