D. Proposed sign copy.

for potential sight distance and visibility issues. Additional information must supplement
this application showing how the proposed signage will not encroach into the public right-
of-way or present a traffic hazard. Page 3 of 4 illustrates an example for what would be
required for such proposed signs.

SITE PLAN REQUIREMENT FOR POLE, MONUMENT, AND FREESTANDING SIGN
APPLICATIONS
The following example illustrates the information that is required for all pole, monument, and
freestanding sign permit applications. Prior to approval, all such proposed signs must be reviewed
for potential issues by the Transportation Department, which will not allow signs to be approved
over the counter. Additional time will be required for on-site inspection.

Relationship to Streets: Signs shall be designed and located so as not to interfere with the
unobstructed clear view of the public right-of-way and nearby traffic regulatory signs of any
pedestrian, bicyclist or motor vehicle driver.
Sight Distance: No sign or sign structure shall be placed or constructed so that it impairs the sight
distance requirements at any public or private street intersection or driveway.

Architectural
Review Committee
The Architectural Review Committee (ARC) of the Carlsbad Research Center (CRC) has
reviewed your wall sign application submitted on behalf of your tenant SynergEyes, for your
building located at 2232 Rutherford Road on lot 9 of the CRC.
The proposed plan for a single wall sign is consistent with the CRC Design Guidelines.
However, the ARC has decided that for aesthetic reasons, they want the sign to be located
directly above or below the existing address numbers (see attached plan). This way both the
sign and the address numbers will be centered over the windows below. Therefore the
submitted plans are considered APPROVED, with the condition that the sign be placed either
above or below the existing '2232' address numbers.
You may proceed with the construction and installation of your sign once a sign permit is
obtained from the City of Carlsbad. Please forward a copy of your City sign permit to:

The Architectural Review Committee (ARC) of the Carlsbad Research Center (C RC) has
reviewed your wall sign application submitted on behalf of your tenant SynergEyes, for your
building located at 2232 Rutherford Road on lot 9 of the CRC.
The proposed single wall sign is not consistent with the CRC Design Guidelines (please see the
attached sign evaluation matrix) and therefore is considered NOT APPROV ED . The sign
lettering/logo height is greater than the allowed maximum of 24 inches. Additionally. the sign
area is greater than the allowed maximum of 50 square feet.
If you would like to modify your plans to make yo ur sign comply with the CRC Design Guidelines,
you can go ahead and resubmit electronic copies directly to me for review. No additional application
