Dear Ms. Webber:
The Planning Department has reviewed your request to revise the sign program for the Plaza Paseo
Real Shopping Center. The City of Carlsbad does not feel that a revision is warranted. The Sign
Program was developed with knowledge that Pad A would block the visibility of the shops in the
east end of building A from El Camino Real. The intent of signage for the small retail shops was
that signs were to be oriented toward the interior of the complex rather than El Camino Real. The
Sign Program was also to minimize the signage on El Camino Real.
There exist other options for additional signage for Conroy’s Flowers or for any future tenant. The
Monument sign for the shopping center at the comer of El Camino Real and Alga Road has space
for additional tenant identity as well as other directoIy signs on site.
The Planning Department has received comments and concerns about the type of freestanding and
neon signs for this site from various Planning Commissioners. These signs are not pennitted by the
Sign Program and should be removed.
The Planning Department therefore denies Sign Application PS 91-65, an amendment to the Sign
Program for Plaza Paseo Real. You have the right to appeal this decision to the Planning
Commission within ten days of the receipt of this letter. Appeals must be submitted in writing to
the Planning Department at 2075 las Palmas Drive in Carlsbad, along with a payment of $470.00.
The filing of such appeal within such time limit shall stay the effective date of the order of the
Planning Director until such time as a final decision on the appeal is reached.
