SUBJECT: PS 94-07 ARTECON
Dear Mr. Holt:
Staff has reviewed your proposed sign permit application. In accordance with Section 4D of the
El Camino Real Corridor Development Standards, the only type of sign which may be visible
along the El Camino Real Corridor is a freestanding monument sign no higher than 5 feet above
street grade and no more than 24 square feet in area. Therefore, the proposed wall sign facing
the Corridor is not permissible. Wall signs visible from El Camino Real are permissible, however,
if the Planning Director approves such a sign through a sign program. A sign program
establishes design criteria to guide the design for all signs on a building or complex, including
elements such as material, color, size, location, lighting, and uniformity. The Planning Director
has determined that the proposed wall sign would have to be reduced considerably in area to
be approved as part of a sign program.
Application for a sign program may be filed with the Planning Department. The fee for filing a
sign program application is currently $1 75.00. Several examples of approved sign programs are
on file at the Planning Department and are available for your viewing.
This letter is the official denial of your sign permit application. If you choose not to pursue
establishing a sign program on the subject property, you must immediately remove the wall sign or appeal this decision to the Planning Commission within ten calendar days after the decision
of the Planning Director. The appeal must be filed in writing with the Planning Department. The
date of the Planning Director's decision shall be the date this letter is mailed to you. The
Planning Commission action on the appeal is final. The fee for filing an appeal is $490.00.
