The Planning Department has received and reviewed your application to display a 34.17 square foot wall
sign at 5515 Car Country Drive, the Jeep Eagle dealership. Based upon the existing conditions, as
described below, staff can approve the sign permit request, however some explanation is necessary for
accurate record keeping.
The site was developed through a site development plan (SDP 88-09) along with the Carlsbad Mitsubishi
dealership. Therefore the total signage allowed on the property is tied not only to the existing Jeep
Eagle signage, but also the existing Mitsubishi signage. According to SDP 88-09, the total building
frontage on the property is 293 lineal feet. The Car Country specific plan (SP 19(C)) allows 1.5 square
feet of signage for each lineal foot of building frontage, thereby permitting 439.5 square feet of signs on
the Jeep Eagle/Mitsubishi property. Listed below is a tabulation of the existing signage and the total
signage allowance remaining after this permit request.

As part of the previous Jeep Eagle sign permit (PS 94-53), the Jeep Eagle sign facing southeast was
supposed to be removed (see attached site plan from PS 94-53). This sign is still being displayed, which
reduces the remaining signage allowance to 62.33 square feet. Since the sign was still up as of the
approval of this permit, the square footage is deducted from the total allowance. If this sign is truly to
be removed, the next sign permit proposal should show this and adjust the s'ignage allowance
accordingly.
