RE: BUILDING SIGN FOR AMEDEO'S ITALIAN CAFE, 2780 STATE
STREET, CARLSBAD
Dear Mr. Futch:
Thank you for submitting a sign permit application for the building sign to be installed at the
Amedeo's Italian Cafe located at 2780 State Street in Carlsbad. The sign permit has been
approved. Therefore, you may proceed with mstallation of the sign according to your
approved sign permit (see attached copy).
For information purposes, the Redevelopment Agency is currentiy working to revise the
standards for signs within the Village Redevelopment Area. It is very likely that the new
standards will not allow signs to be placed on any portion of a roof stmcture. So, the
location of the sign identified for Amedeo's Cafe will most likely not be permitted in tiie
future. We will probably require that the signs be placed dkectiy on the building walls,
projecting from the building wall (perpendicular to buildmg) or hanging from the bottom of
the roof stmcture. We anticipate that intemally illuminated signs will still be permitted as
long as they are not distracting or serve solely as an "attention-getting" device. But, we will
also requke that the signs be more compatible/consistent with the building design m terms of
materials, colors and type. This is just provided for information purposes, it does not unpact
the permit for the Amedeo's sign at this time.
