November 26,1997 i -I Mr. Mike Peterson 2075 Las Palmas Drive Carlsbad, CA 92009- 1576 . r: City of Carlsbad <2$* 8' y', SUBJECT: FREE-STANDING SIGN FOR THE SALTAIRE PROJECT ALONG HIDDEN VALLEY ROAD SOUTH OF PALOMAR AIRPORT ROAD IN ZONE 20 (LADWIG DESIGN GROUP, INC. - J/N L-1033) Dear Mike: I have been asked by Monarch Communities of CA to direct this letter to you asking that we be allowed to retain the present sign that is on the Monarch Communities of CA property (CT 95-05). We feel it is allowed by Carlsbad Municipal Code Section 21.41.070 Paragraph D found on Page 674 of the Carlsbad Municipal Code. The following is a list of items we feel demonstrates that we are in conformance with the Carlsbad Municipal Code for the placement of the Saltaire sign. The reasons are as follows: 1. The existing sign meets the size and design requirements of the code. 2. The sign is within the limits of the subdivision as required. 3. The sign is close to Hidden Valley Road which is a major approach, as defined in the Municipal Code. 4. There is more than 100 feet from any dwelling as required. 5. The sign has not been placed on the highest most visible portion of the project facing Palomar Airport Road, but is placed on a lower level to provide some background. 6. The sign as currently placed faces towards Hidden Valley Road near the north end of our development and is clearly closer to Hidden Valley Road than it is to Palomar Airport Road. Based on the above, we hereby request that you find that our sign is in conformance with the Carlsbad Municipal Code. If you have any questions, please give me a call.
