Last week I had called and left a message for Ray Garrison, the Code Enforcement Officer, to discuss with him any concerns he might have for the placement of the Saltaire sign. Ray returned my call on, I believe it was Monday, and asked me if the sign was in the open space lot, and if it was, the sign would be a code violation. I indicated to Ray that I thought it was on the graded pad within Lot 8 of the Emerald Ridge East Subdivision. I then went out in the field to veri@ that in fact the sign is placed within the flat graded pad portion of Lot 8. I passed this information onto Ray and he indicated to me that he thought that we had a legal sign the way it was placed. When I talked to you last week and in reference to your letter regarding the Pending Sign Permit PS 97-136, you indicated that you wanted me to show the sign location on the exhibit as part of the new monument sign permit. You also indicated that at that time, before I had talked to Ray Garrison, that you wanted the sign relocated and that once that was done, you would be ready to issue the sign permit. We still feel that the sign has been placed in an area that relates more to Hidden Valley Road than to Palomar Airport Road (200 feet from Hidden Valley Road vs. 800 feet fiom Palomar Airport Road), and that the sign does meet the intent of the Sign Ordinance in that it is at the edge of Hidden Valley Road which our major approach to the subdivision. 703 Palomar Airport Road + Suite 300 + Carlsbad, California 921009 (760) 438.31 8Q FRX (760) 438-01 73 Ms. Anne Hysong December 5, 1997 Page 2 I ask that you again look at our request to retain the Saltaire sign in its present location and to issue Sign Permit PS 97-136.
