PS 98-137 - ISLANDS FREEWAY POLE SIGN PERMIT
Dear John,
I have reviewed what was presented as being a proposed new sign design for the Islands Pole
Sign submitted by your firm on November 17, 1998. I also reviewed the plans submitted for sign
permit PS 98-137. It appears that both sign details for the freeway pole sign are the same. The
sign detail for the freeway pole sign submitted with the sign permit application included open
face channel letters to be illuminated with a neon tube. This was approved in error as the sign
program approved by the planning commission with the project’s site development plan included
replacing the Denny’s sign with a new lexan face Islands sign comparable to the Mobil and Taco
Bell signs also located on the pole.
Please be aware that the sign permit annroval has been revoked. You will need to revise the pole
sign drawings and submit 3 sets of plans for review and approval. The Planning Department will
not support placing a sign on the pole that is not comparable to the sign type used for the other
two existing signs and the previous Denny’s sign as well as the Planning Commission and City
Council approved sign program.
Should you have any questions concerning this matter please contact me at (760) 438-l 161,
extension 4446.
