RE: SIGN PROGRAM 99-14 - HOLIDAY INN/TGI FRIDAY’S
Dear Deborah:
Thank you for the latest submittal of the Holiday Inn and TGI Friday’s sign program.
Below is a list of items that need to be addressed and clarified on the proposal.
1. The table on the new sign proposal sheet includes more existing signs than the
existing sign table shows. Please show all existing signs on the new sign proposal
sign schedule table.
2. The square footage of the signs do not match between the existing and proposed.
This seems to occur with the service station signs such as the monument price sign.
Also review sign J which is 14 square feet, but under construction details is shown as
14 square feet rather than 28 square feet since there are two signs.
3. The new sign Ml/M5 is not considered a directional sign and should be included in
the sign schedule. A good example of a directional sign is the existing E-2 sign. It
gives directional information with generic information such as “Hotel” and does not
utilize the name or logos of the hotel or restaurant.
4. Provide details of proposed M-2, M-3, and M-4 signs or add information that Ml/M5
includes M2, M3, and M4. Keep in mind that these will not qualify as directional
signs.
5. Provide new proposed copy for sign K and sign design and copy for sign L.
6. New sign E for the lobby columns at hotel entrance are twice the original size. The
signs proposed are 20 square feet as opposed to 9.75 square feet as previously
approved. The signs are now facing the street whereas before they were facing the
entrance/exit to the carport as previously approved by staff. We will not support the
direction that these are facing or the proposed size as there are other new signs

proposed facing the street. These signs should face the entrance/exit of the carport as
previously approved.
7. Sign G should be scaled down to be the same size as sign E (36 square feet).
8. Also include in the program the complete removal of the existing unused rock base
monument at the southwest comer of the site.
The City is currently working on a new commerciaVtourist overlay zone to supplement
the underlying zoning by providing additional regulations for commercial/visitor-serving
uses. This is expected to go forward for approval in August. It would be beneficial to the
applicant to secure the approval of the sign program prior to the adoption of the new
ordinance as it will restrict the future amount and location of signage.
If you have any questions regarding the above, please give me a call at 438-l 16 1,
extension 4447.
Sincerely,
Van Lynch
