SUBJECT: PS 99-82 - COAST WASTE MANAGEMENT SIGN
Dear Conrad:
The Planning and Engineering Departments have reviewed your request for a
sign permit for the existing wooden, free-standing sign located at the intersection
of Orion Way with El Camino Real. Since the sign is located on El Camino
Real, it is subject to the regulations contained in the El Camino Real Corridor
Standards. These standards allow free-standing signs up to five (5) feet above
the roadway elevation and up to a maximum of 24 square feet in area.
The existing Coast Waste Management sign is over five (5) feet above the
elevation of El Camino Real and measures 48 square feet in area. Therefore the
sign is not consistent with the El Camino Real Corridor Standards and cannot be
approved.
With regard to traffic sight distance, the future improvements of El Camino Real
will require moving the sign at least 12 feet back from it’s existing location.
Please resubmit three sets of site plans and sign elevations showing a proposed
sign that would meet the requirements of the El Camino Real Corridor
Standards. Feel free to contact me at (760) 438-l 161, extension 4499, if you
have any questions.
