Dear Sir or Madam:
The Carlsbad Housing & Redevelopment Department has begun a comprehensive code
enforcement effort to ensure that all A-Frame Signs and Outdoor Displays within the
Village area comply with all applicable regulations and have obtained all required
permits.
Recently, staff walked the Village Redevelopment Project Area to identify the location of
A-Frame Signs and/or Outdoor Displays. It was noted that an a-frame sign and outdoor
display was present in front of your business. According to our records no permit has
been issued for an a-frame sign and outdoor display at your location. Therefore, you
must remove the a-frame sign and outdoor display immediately. If the items have not
been removed from the public right-of-wav within 10 business days of the date of
this letter or a permit has not been obtained thev may be summarilv removed
without further notice from the Citv and disposed of as surplus property.
To obtain a permit for the a-frame sign and outdoor display, you must submit an
application along with the appropriate application fee to Redevelopment staff at 2965
Roosevelt Street Suite B, Carlsbad, CA 92008. Please come by the Carlsbad
Redevelopment Office at 2965 Roosevelt Street to pick up a permit application or call
434-2812 for an application to be mailed to you. Again, as noted above, you must
remove the a-frame sign and outdoor display until you obtain the required pemiit.
Thank you for your immediate attention to this matter. If you need further information or
need assistance, please give me a call at (760) 434-2812.
Sincerely
Linda Holmes

Re: Approval of Sidewalk Sign Permit
Dear Ms. Cruz:
Thank you for submitting your application for a Sidewalk Sign Permit. The required Certificate
of Insurance from your insurance carrier was received on June 8, 2000. Having received all
required documents your application has been approved. Attached is a copy of the approved
Sidewalk Sign Permit for your records.
Please note Engineering staff has recommended the sign be placed as far west as possible to
reduce impacts to sight visibility (see attached revised site plan). I have shared your concerns
with Engineering staff that you would like the sign to be placed as close to your store entrance
as possible for identification purposes. Engineering has agreed to review the location of the
sign once it is placed in the desired location. Again, it is recommended that the sign be placed
as far west as possible. If the location proves to impact sight distance, staff will contact you to
discuss a more optimal location along the frontage of your business.
The attached permit allows you to retain your sign for; 1) as long as the Housing and
Redevelopment Commission allows sidewalk signs to remain, 2) as long as the sign continues
to meet the standards outlined within the Carlsbad Village Master Plan and Design Manual, and
3) as long as the sign is consistent with this permit approval. It is important to note that the
Housing and Redevelopment Commission will complete an annual review of the sidewalk sign
regulations to determine their continued applicability. A valid Certificate of Insurance is required
for as long as the A-Frame sign continues to be placed within the public right-of-way.
Thank you for your continued cooperation. If you should have any questions regarding the
information contained in this letter, please call me at (760) 434-2813.
Sincerely,
CITY OFCARLSBAD
