Re: Modifications to Approved Nextel Communications Facility located at
3001 Carlsbad Blvd. - Carlsbad Inn (RP01-11/CDP01-28)
Dear Mark:
As we discussed in on our telephone conversation earlier today, I have reviewed
your request for minor modifications to existing Redevelopment Permit No.
RP01-11 and Coastal Development Permit No. CDP01-28 to structurally
reinforce the second floor of the Carlsbad Inn building located at the southwest
corner of Carlsbad Blvd. and Carlsbad Village Drive. Based on my conversation
with the architect Robert Suarez, it is my understanding that a trellis and wood
clad support pipe will be added between two existing trellises on the south facing
elevation of the building under the cantilevered second story to accommodate
the weight of the Nextel radio equipment.
This request has been reviewed by the Housing & Redevelopment Director and
found to be in substantial conformance with the approved redevelopment and
coastal development permits. Therefore, there is no need to process an
amendment to your existing redevelopment permit to initiate the requested
change. Housing and Redevelopment staff will review the modifications during
the building permit plan check process. The building plans must be consistent
with the building elevations faxed to me on March 11, 2002 to be in substantial
conformance with the approved land use permits.

Dear Anne:
On October 1, 2001, the Housing and Redevelopment Director conditionally approved
Administrative Redevelopment Permit No. RP 01-11 and Coastal Development Permit
No. CDP 01-28 for property located at 3001 Carlsbad Blvd. The decision of the
Housing and Redevelopment Director is subject to a ten (10) day appeal period. The
appeal period has elapsed and no appeals were filed. Attached is a copy of the
approved permit authorizing the installation of an unmanned telecommunications facility
on the most northeasterly building of the Carlsbad Inn property. Please review all
conditions carefully. Violation of the conditions could result in revocation of this permit
Before initiating construction of the subject project you must complete the process to
obtain the appropriate building permits.

Dear Anne:
The items required to complete your Administrative Redevelopment Permit (application
no. RP01-11) and Coastal Development Permit (application no. CDP01-28) have been
received and reviewed by the Housing and Redevelopment Department together with
other appropriate City departments. It has been determined that the applications are
complete and suitable for final processing.
The first of two 10-day public notices was mailed out today, Thursday, September 18,
2001. Unless additional information Is presented to staff which would preclude
approval of the project, the Housing and Redevelopment Director Intends to approve
the request for Installatton of the cellular facility and associated antennas at Carlsbad
Inn located at 3001 Carlsbad Blvd., as shown on the plans received by the Housing and
Redevelopment Department on August 6, 2001. The decision of the Housing and
Redevelopment Director Is subject to a 10-day appeal period (the second public notice).
Final approval of the project does not occur until the appeal period expires. Official
notice will be sent to you upon final approval of the project.
