Dear Sir or Madam:
The Carlsbad Housing & Redevelopment Department has begun a comprehensive code
enforcement effort to ensure that all A-Frame Signs and Outdoor Displays within the
Village area comply with all applicable regulations and business owners have obtained
required permits.
Recently, staff walked the Village Redevelopment Project Area to identify the location of
A-Frame Signs and/or Outdoor Displays. It was noted that an Outdoor Display was
present in front of your business. According to our records no permit has been issued
for an Outdoor Display at your location. All Outdoor Displays on both private property
and within the public right-of-way must be permitted by the City of Carlsbad. If the
items have not been removed from the front of vour business within 10 business
davs of the date of this letter or a permit has not been obtained, vou mav be cited.
To obtain a permit for the Outdoor Display, you must submit an application along with
the appropriate application fee to Redevelopment staff at 2965 Roosevelt Street Suite B,
Carlsbad, CA 92008. If the Outdoor Display is placed within the public right of way, a
Certificate of Insurance in the amount of $1 million, naming the City of Carlsbad and the
Carlsbad Redevelopment Agency as additional insured, is also required. An application
for an Outdoor Display has been enclosed for your use. The application includes
"Location and Development Criteria", which further explains the regulations pertaining
to Outdoor Displays. Again, as noted above, you must remove the Outdoor Display until
such time as you obtain the required permit.
Thank you for your immediate attention to this matter. If you need further information or
assistance, please give me a call at (760) 434-2812.
Sincerely
Linda Holmes

Dear Sir or Madam:
Our records indicate that you were issued Permit #01-14 for an A-Frame Sign that is
located in the public right-of-way. A requirement of the permit is that the City of
Carlsbad and the Carlsbad Redevelopment Agency be listed as Additional Insured on
your insurance policy. The most recent certificate of insurance on file expires or expired
on 5/30/2002. If the certificate of insurance on file has not yet expired, please ask your
insurance provider to ensure that a new certificate is sent to us upon renewal. If there is
no certificate of insurance on file or if it has expired, please submit a current certificate of
insurance within ten davs (10). If a current certificate of insurance is not received by the
Carlsbad Redevelopment Agency, your permit may be revoked and/or the A-Frame Sign
may be confiscated by Code Enforcement.
Thank you for your immediate attention to this matter. If you need further information or
need assistance, please give me a call at (760) 434-2812.
Sincerely
Linda Holmes

Re: Approval of Sidewalk Sign Permit
Dear Perry:
Thank you for submitting your application for a Sidewalk Sign Permit. Having received all
required documents your application has been approved. Attached is a copy of the approved
Sidewalk Sign Permit for your records.
The attached permit allows you to retain your sign for; 1) as long as the Housing and
Redevelopment Commission allows sidewalk signs to remain, 2) as long as the sign continues
to meet the standards outlined within the Carisbad Village Master Plan and Design Manual, and
3) as long as the sign is consistent with this permit approval. It is important to note that the
Housing and Redevelopment Commission will complete an annual review of the sidewalk sign
regulations to determine their continued applicability. A valid Certificate of Insurance is required
for as long as the A-Frame sign continues to be placed within the public right-of-way. Most
importantly, the sign must be placed as shown on the approved site plan.
If you should have any questions regarding the information contained in this letter, please call
me at (760) 434-2813.
Sincerely,
