Re: Approval of Sidewalk Sign Permit
Dear Dave & Kathy:
Thank you for submitting your application for a Sidewalk Sign Permit and for removing the
nonconforming internally illuminated box sign on the south side of the building. Based on prior
conversations with you it is our understanding that the wall sign facing Carisbad Blvd. is not
internally illuminated even though it appears there is an old electrical connection tied to it.
Please keep in mind that this sign may not be internally illuminated at any time in the future as it
would be inconsistent with the Village sign regulations and therefore invalidate the permit for
the A-Frame sign. We have confirmed that the remaining signage on your building meets the
Village Redevelopment Area sign standards. Therefore, having received all required
documents your application has been approved. Attached is a copy of the approved Sidewalk
Sign Permit for your records.
The attached permit allows you to retain your sign for; 1) as long as the Housing and
Redevelopment Commission allows sidewalk signs to remain, 2) as long as the sign continues
to meet the standards outlined within the Carisbad Village Master Plan and Design Manual, and
3) as long as the sign is consistent with this permit approval. It is important to note that the
Housing and Redevelopment Commission will complete an annual review of the sidewalk sign
regulations to determine their continued applicability. A valid Certificate of Insurance is required
for as long as the A-Frame sign continues to be placed within the public right-of-way. Most
importantly, the sign must be placed as shown on the approved site plan.

RE: Current Insurance Certificate for Sidewalk Sign
Dear Dave & Kathy:
Our records indicate that you were issued Permit #02-06 for a Sidewalk Sign that
is located within the public right-of-way. An ongoing requirement of the permit is
that you maintain a valid certificate of insurance for the item within the public
right-of-way naming the City of Carisbad and the Carisbad Redevelopment
Agency as additional insured.
This is a courtesy notice to inform you that the certificate of insurance we
currently have on file is due to expire on December 20, 2002. If you would like to
continue to have the Sidewalk Sign within the public right-of-way, please have
your insurance carrier forward to us an updated insurance certificate within 10
business days of the expiration date. OthenA/ise, the item must be removed from
the public right-of-way.
Thank you for your immediate attention to this matter. If you need further
information or assistance, please contact my office at (760) 434-2813.
Sincejely,
