Re: Approval of Sidewalk Sign Permit - RP 04-07
Dear Dorma:
Thank you for submitting your application for a Sidewalk Sign Permit. Having received all
required documents your application has been approved. Attached is a copy of the approved
Sidewalk Sign Permit with condition(s) for your records.
The attached permit allows you to retain your sign for; 1) as long as the Housing and
Redevelopment Commission allows sidewalk signs to remain, 2) as long as the sign continues
to meet the standards outlined within the Carlsbad Village Master Plan and Design Manual, and
3) as long as the sign is consistent with this permit approval. It is important to note that the
Housing and Redevelopment Commission will complete an annual review of the sidewalk sign
regulations to determine their continued applicability. A valid Certificate of Insurance is required
for the duration of time the A-Frame sign continues to be placed within the public right-of-way.
In addition, the sign shall be displayed during business hours only. Signs shall not remain on
the sidewalk during non-business hours. Most importantly, the sign must be placed as shown
on the approved site plan.
In addition, a condition has been placed on Sidewalk Sign Permit No. RP 04-07 for a sign
permit for your building signage. Our records do not indicate that a sign permit has been
obtained for you building signage. With this letter I am enclosing a sign permit application that
must be filled out and submitted, along with a plan showing the dimensions and location of the
sign, first to the Housing and Redevelopment Department for approval and then to the City
Planning Department for final processing. For information about requiring a building permit,
please contact the Carlsbad Building Department at 760-602-2700.

Dear Ms. Russell:
Thank you for submitting your application for a sidewalk/freestanding sign within the
Village Redevelopment Area. Your application has been review^ and determined to
be incomplete for further processing. A sidewalk/freestanding sign cannot be posted on
the sidewalk until a Sidewalk/Freestanding Sign Permit has been approved.
Please provide the following information to deem your application complete:
A. Sidewalk Siqn Permit Application - Please complete the highlighted areas.
B. Sidewalk Siqn Plan - Please provide Jvjaxiiflpi^s of the sidewalk sign copy. State
whether sidewalk sign will have 1 o(
C. Site Plan - The following information must be included on the enclose site plan; a)
Indicate the sidewalk sign location and dimensions; b) Indicate the building's
entrance dimensions; and c) Indicate the sign location distance from planters,
existing tree and surrounding grate on the sidewalk. Please note that established
regulations for freestanding signs mandate that a clear area of at least five feet (5')
in width must be maintained for pedestrian use over the entire length of the sidewalk
in front of the business.
D. Buildinq Elevations - Please provide information regarding all other signage (if any).
All existing building signage for a business must conform to the sign standards set
forth within the Village Master Plan and Design Manual before a permit will be
approved for the sidewalk sign. Therefore, in addition to the site plan, two copies of
building elevations which clearly reflect the location and total amount of existing
signage on the business building or property must be submitted. These plans must
include the size and type of each sign on the existing building or property and the
existing sign copy.

E. Certificate of Insurance - Provide a Certificate of Insurance in the amount of $1
million, which lists the City of Carlsbad and Carlsbad Redevelopment Agency as
additionally insured.
Once the items contained in this letter are submitted, the Housing and Redevelopment
Department will continue processing your application. As a reference tool, I have
enclosed a copy of the Sidewalk/Freestanding Signs - Location and Development
