Re: Approval of Sidewalk Sign Permit
Dear Ms. Boyle:
Thank you for submitting your application for a Sidewalk Sign Permit. Having received all
required documents, your application has been approved. Attached is a copy of the approved
Sidewalk Sign Permit for your records.
The attached permit allows you to retain your sign for; 1) as long as the Housing and
Redevelopment Commission allows sidewalk signs to remain, 2) as long as the sign continues
to meet the standards outlined within the Carlsbad Village Master Plan and Design Manual, and
3) as long as the sign is consistent with this permit approval. It is important to note that the
Housing and Redevelopment Commission will complete an annual review of the sidewalk sign
regulations to determine their continued applicability.
If you should have any questions regarding the information contained in this letter, please call
me at (760) 434-2817.
Sincerely,
CITY OF CARLSBAD

Dear Ms. Vazquez,
You had responded by letter dated September 15,2004 to Children's Discovery
Museum's sign request. This response will address these issues in the same format so WQ can
complete the process that was initiated nearly a year ago.
A) Application Processing Fee: Enclosed is a check for additional $7.00
B) Site Plan: In the site plan submitted with the permit request, it clearly shows 10 feet
maintained over the entire length of the sidewalk in front of the building. I have included
a Floor Plan that was used to obtain permits for tenant improvements. Since this is a city
owned building, that we rent from your Housing & Redevelopment office, it surprises me
that you do not have a copy. The frontage on Christiansen Way is 99'9" and there is an
unoccupied storefront (leased by Beach Bound) in the 39'4" from the southeast comer,
which leaves 65'5" of building frontage for museum use.
C) Sign Permit: We currently have a sign hanging on the inside of the storefront window
above our front door. That is our "building sign" and my understanding is that it does not
need a permit.
D) Business License: Children's Discovery Museum is a non-profit corporation under IRS
section 501(c)(3) and, as such, does not need to pay City of Carlsbad for a business
license.
Please call me directly on my cell phone (760) 889-6234 if there are any ftirther questions so
that we can expedite completion of this process.
Kind Regards
