SUBJECT: 2571 Roosevelt Street; CARCOA Auto Painting Shop
A recent inspection of the above referenced property revealed several violations.
The violations addressed in this letter will define the problems that the
Building and Zoning Departments of the City of Carlsbad are concerned with.
The following defects were noted during the inspection:
1. The main electrical service room was not built tothe requirements of the
Uniform Building Code. The room was not constructed of one-hour-fire-
rated construction. The room needed a roof and to be sprinkled.
2. There was painting being done outside of the required paint booth and
within twenty feet of electrical outlets and services.
3. Electrical equipment was covered with overspray and sanding dust.
4. The heater for the spray booth was installed inside the required
thirty-six (36) inch minimum clearance area in front of the electrical
panel.
5. Heater vent pipe installed improperly. Evidence of charring on the roof
structure. This is a hazardous situation.
6. The painting of vehicles outside of the building.
7. The storage of scrap metal parts outside of the building.
The above listed violations are of immediate concern of this office; however, other
matters may be brought to your attention by the Carlsbad Fire Department. Please
contact this office by March 31, 1988 to inform the City as to what action will be
taken to correct the above mentioned defects.

Attention: Mark Snee
After conducting an inspection of your facility, located
at 2571 Roosevelt in Carlsbad, items must be corrected.
1. Discontinue all spray painting except within an approved
spray booth.
2. Provide the proper fire rated enclosure for electrical
room adjacent to the office.
A. Submit plans to Building Department.
3. Have 5 year certification test performed on sprinkler
system (list of sprinkler companies enclosed). Provide
Fire Department with a copy.
4. Flu pipe for spray booth heater to be repaired or replaced
5. Keep flammable liquids in approved cabinets at all times
when not being used. No containers inside spray booth
except those being used.
6. Flammable liquid storage room to contain originally sealed
containers only.
A reinspection of your facility will be conducted on April
14, 1988.
