RE: WITHDRAWAL OF APPLICATION FOR HISTORIC HOUSE MOVE
Our office has received two letters from the Carlsbad Historical
Society stating that they are no longer interested in moving the
historical house at 1101 Knowles Avenue to a site on Christiansen
Way. Having been informed of the necessity to bring the house up
to code if it was to be used after being moved and considering
the cost, the consensus of the Historical Society was to withdraw
the application.
In a letter dated September 6, 1990, signed by the President of
the Carlsbad Historic Society, the Society specifically asks that
the Historic House Move Permit be WITHDRAWN and REMOVED from the
September 19, Design Review Board Agenda.
In a conversation with Kay Christianson regarding the letters,
she thanked City Staff for their assistance. She asked that
staff notify the owner of the property of the change of plans and
to thank him for his patience.
Since the RP File is housed at your office, the originals of the
letters are included for the file.
If I can be of further assistance, please call ext. 2816.

Good Morning:
It is with regret that at our Historical Society Board
meeting, this morning, the decision was made that we
must refuse the *warehousing * of the Knowles house.
Initially we had understood that we could use the house
for office & storage. Now, we have heen advised that is
not possible and we do not have the funds to pay the re-
quired costs to move and locate it on our property with
no anticipation of it^s use.
Please thank the owner for his patience.

SUBJECT: Meeting regarding Historic House Move from 1101 Knowles to Christensen Way
This memo is a summary of our meeting today. The following points were decided at the meeting:
• Due to prior commitments, the earliest time that Andersen House Movers can move the
house is the middle of September, 1990.
• Before the house can be moved, arrangements must be made with SDG&E, Pacific Belt,
Cable Television and the AT&SF Railroad. Gary Nessim will contact these agencies to
secure the required approvals and have the agencies move any utilities that might be in
the way. This process was estimated by the contractor to fa/ce about 3 to 4 weeks.
• The owner or contractor must notify the utility companies sen/ing the house to disconnect
the utilities before the house can be moved.
• A right-of-way plan must be submitted by the owner or contractor to the Building
Department at least 2 weeks before the move takes place.
• Staff has been informed that the following city review is needed.
1) Historic Preservation Commission Review. This will take place Monday, August 13,
1990.
2) Housing and Redevelopment Advisory Committee Review. This will take place
Monday, August 27, 1990.
3) Approval by Design Review Board of a Redevelopment Permit and Coastal Permit.
This will take place Wednesday, September 5, 1990.
• Gary Nessim will secure the plans and drawings to submit to the Historic Preservation
Commission and Housing and Redevelopment Advisory Committee. (Although this was
not discussed at the meeting, there is no trash enclosure shown on the plans. Please
send a site plan showing the location ofyour trash receptacle).
• When the building is moved, it will be treated as a new building and must be made to
conform to current codes.
• The house moving contractor must have a liability insurance policy of at least
$1,000,000.00 in force at the time of the move.
