Re: Farmer's Market Major Redevelopment Permit Amendment
Dear Mike:
Thank you for your letter, dated March 21, 2000, requesting the hours of the Village
Farmer's Market be extended to 8:00 p.m. on the first Wednesday of May, June,
July, and August of this year. The Major Redevelopment Permit approved for the
use allows the parking lot to remain open until 8:00 p.m. The reason the time limit
was placed on the permit was because there are no lights in the parking lot and
during daylight savings time it is dark by 8:00 p.m. Therefore, as long as everything
is cleaned up and the parking lot is open by 8:00 p.m. there is no need to amend the
permit solely to change the hours of operation.
The second part of your request includes a desire to add live bands on the same
days you wish to remain open until 8:00 p.m. This change will require an
amendment to the existing redevelopment permit. The reason for the amendment is
to provide public notification to all property owners in the surrounding area. As we
have discussed, previous events which have included live music have also led to
complaints from surrounding business owners. Since live music was not included in
the original permit an amendment will be required.
This morning I gave you the necessary application to process the amendment to the
existing Major Redevelopment Permit As part of the application, you must submit a
site plan showing the location where the bands intend to perform. Additionally,
please include in the project description if you intend the music to be amplified.
If you have any questions regarding the application or the permit process,
contact me at 434-2813.
Sincerely,
CITY OF CARLSBAD
