Subject: Application for Sidewalk Sign
Dear Mr. Nielsen:
Thank you for submitting your application for a Sidewalk Sign Permit. In order for any Village
business to be permitted a Sidewalk Sign, all other existing signs must be in conformance with
the Carlsbad Village Redevelopment Master Plan. Your business currently has a pole sign, and
the new Master Plan prohibits pole signs. Although the pole sign is non-conforming under this
regulation, you may continue to keep it. However, because of the non-conforming sign, your
Sidewalk Sign Application is hereby denied.
If you wish to display your Sidewalk Sign, you will need to remove the non-conforming sign and
submit a revised application indicating that the sign has been removed. Once the sign is
removed, you may be eligible to add new or additional signs for your business. All new signs
will require the approval of a sign permit.
For your information, I have enclosed a copy of the Redevelopment Agency's Facade
Improvement and Signage Assistance Program Application. If you elect to remove the non-
conforming signs and add additional signage, a portion of these costs may be eligible for rebate
through this Program.
In the coming weeks, the City's Code Enforcement Officer will be removing all non-permitted
Sidewalk Signs. Non-permitted signs will be subject to removal at any time and without notice.
To avoid the loss of your current sidewalk sign, it is recommended that you remove it until such
time as you acquire a Sidewalk Sign Permit.
If you have any questions about the above information, please call me at (760) 434-2817.
Sincerely,
