Dear Linda Holmes,
I received your letter dated March 4^ about my A-Frame Sign pemnit
needing to be listed as having additional insurance for the City of
Carlsbad and the Carlsbad Redevelopment Agency. I would like to
respond that when I paid my $30 fee for my permit I was not informed
Of the insurance requirement and was told that this was a one-time
fee. I would tike to receive a copy from you of the permits
requirements that shows that it was required at the time that I paid for
my pennit. If this requirement was made at a later date than the time
that I paid my fee then I should have been informed of this event with
the option to be reimbursed my fee if I choose not to display a sign on
the public right-of-way because ofthe new requirement.
Sincerely, .
Ken Dinckan

Dear Sir or Madam:
Our records indicate that you were issued Permit #97-36 for an A-Frame Sign that is
located in the public right-of-way. A requirement of the permit is that the City of
Carlsbad and the Carlsbad Redevelopment Agency be listed as Additional Insured on
your insurance policy. The most recent certificate of insurance on file expires or expired
on (no certificate on file). If the certificate of insurance on file has not yet expired,
please ask your insurance provider to ensure that a new certificate is sent to us upon
renewal. If there is no certific&te of insurance on file or if it has expired, please submit a
current certificate of insurance within ten davs (10). If a current certificate of insurance
is not received by the Carlsbad Redevelopment Agency, your permit may be revoked
and/or the A-Frame Sign may be confiscated by Code Enforcement.
Thank you for your immediate attention to this matter. If you need further information or
need assistance, please give me a call at (760) 434-2812.
Sincerely
Linda Holmes

Subject: Approval of Sidewalk Sign Permit
Dear Mr. Dinckan:
Thank you for submitting your application for a Sidewalk Sign Permit. Your application
has been approved. Attached is a copy of the approved Sidewalk Sign Permit for your
records.
The attached permit allows you to retain your sign for, 1) as long as the Housing and
Redevelopment Commission allows sidewalk signs to remain, 2) as long as the sign
continues to meet the standards outlined within the Carlsbad Village Master Plan and
Design Manual, and 3) as long as the sign is consistent with this permit approval. It is
important to note that the Housing and Redevelopment Commission will complete an
annual review of the sidewalk sign regulations to determine their continued applicability.
Thank you for your cooperation. If you should have any questions about the above
information, please call me at (760) 434-2817.
Sincerely,
Craig D. Kuiz

SUBJECT: Application for Sidewalk Sign
Recently, you inquired as to whether your business required a Sidewalk Sign Permit. The
Carlsbad Village Redevelop Master Plan requires a permit for all freestanding signs.
Although your sign is not located on the sidewalk, it is considered to be a freestanding
sign. Thus, you will need approval of a Sidewalk Sign Permit to continue displaying
your sign..
Enclosed, please find a Sidewalk Sign Permit Application. Please provide all the
required information and submit the application to the Housing and Redevelopment
Department. Because the sign is not located on the sidewalk, you will not be required to
provide a certificate of insurance.
If you have any questions about the above information, please call me at (619) 434-2817.
Sincerely,
Craig D. Ruiz
