Recently, staff walked the Village Redevelopment Project Area to identify the location of A-Frame Signs and/or Outdoor Displays. It was noted that an a-frame sign was present in front of your business. According to our records no permit has been issued for an a- frame sign at your location. Therefore, you must remove the a-frame sign immediately. If the item is displayed in the public right-of-way before a permit has been obtained. City Code Enforcement Officers may confiscate it at any time without prior notice. To obtain a permit for the a-frame sign, you must submit an application along with the appropriate application fee to Redevelopment staff at 2965 Roosevelt Street Suite B, Carlsbad, CA 92008. Please come by the Carlsbad Redevelopment Office at 2965 Roosevelt Street to pick up a permit application or call 434-2812 for an application to be mailed to you. Again, as noted above, you must remove the a-frame sign until you obtain the required permit. Thank you for your immediate attention to this matter. If you need further information or need assistance, please give me a call at (760) 434-2812. Sincerely Linda Holmes Administrative Assistant :LH 2965 Roosevelt St., Ste. In order for any Village business to be permitted a Sidewalk Sign, all other existing signs must be in conformance with the Carlsbad Village Redevelopment Master Plan. Your business currently has two intemally illuminated box signs, and the new Master Plan prohibits such signs. Although the box signs are non-conforming under this regulation, you may continue to keep them. However, because of the non-conforming signs, your Sidewalk Sign Application is hereby denied. If you wish to display your Sidewalk Sign, you will need to remove the non-conforming signs and submit a revised application indicating that the sign has been removed. Once the signs are removed, you may be eligible to add new or additional signs for your business. All new signs will require the approval of a sign permit. For your information, I have enclosed a copy of the Redevelopment Agency's Facade Improvement and Signage Assistance Program Application. If you elect to remove the non- conforming signs and add additional signage, a portion of these costs may be eligible for rebate through this Program. In the coming weeks, the City's Code Enforcement Officer will be removing all non-permitted Sidewalk Signs. Non-permitted signs will be subject to removal at any time and without notice. To avoid the loss of your current sidewalk sign, it is recommended that you remove it until such time as you acquire a Sidewalk Sign Permit. If you have any questions about the above information, please call me at (760) 434-2817. Sincerely, Craig^ Ruiz Management Analyst H:\Sidewalk Sign\Witch Creek Deny 07/08/97 2965 Roosevelt St., Ste. The Housing and Redevelopment Department has temporarily approved a permit for your sidewalk sign. As soon as the new Village Master Plan and Design Manual has been certified by the Califomia Coastal Commission, all businesses with sidewalk signs will be receiving notice to obtain new permits to retain their signs. It is anticipated that this action will occur at the end of the summer (1996). At that time, to retain the signs, a new application must be signed which will include an indemnification statement. Also, businesses will be required to submit a Certificate of Insurance in the amount of $1 million and the signage on the building must conform to the new regulations in the Village Master Plan and Design Manual. 2. Until the Coastal Commission certifies the new Village Master Plan and Design Manual, you are only allowed a total of .6 square feet of signage for each lineal foot of building street frontage. Under the new plan, you will be allowed to have 1 square foot of signage for each lineal foot of building street frontage. 3. Attached for your review is a copy of the new sign standards for the Village. At the end of the summer, your building signage must conform to these regulations. The important points to note are as follows: • Boxed Display (intemally illuminated) Signs are prohibited. • Individual intemally illuminated letters, or Individual Solid Metal Letters, or Plaque Signs mounted to the wall are permitted. Also, exposed neon directly attached to the building face is permitted. • Individual Letters painted on the building will not be permitted on the walls facing Carlsbad Boulevard and Grand Avenue. 2965 Roosevelt St., Ste. B • Carlsbad, CA 92008-2389 • (619) 434-2810/2811 • FAX (619) 720-2037 ® • Individual Letters may be painted on the south and/or east walls. However, these signs must be limited to no more than 10 square feet each. • You will need to submit for a sign permit prior to replacing or adding signs to the building. I hope this information is helpful to you as you consider your signage options. If you need to discuss your signage further, please contact my office at 434-2935.
