TOTAL S :Q) .. ~ "TELLITE ANTENNA PERMIT e Satellite antennas are permitted in th.e City of Carlsbad with a satellite antenna permit. In order to receive a permit, certain conditions must be met. . (IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, PLEASE CONTACT THE DEVELOPMENTAL PROCESSING SERVICES DIVISION) I. RESI DENTIAL ZONES Residential zone restrictions. Satellite television antennas shall be considered as accessory to the main structure and shall be permitted in residential zones subject to the following limitations. 1. The antenna shall be ground mounted. 2. The antenna shall be located within the rear or side yard only; on corner lots the antenna shall not be located on the street side yard. 3. The antenna shall not exceed fifteen feet in height. 4. The antenna shall not be permitted on properties which have been designated as historic sites. 5. The antenna shall be screened from adjacent properties and public view by a wall, fence, hedge, or appropriate plant or landscape material between the antenna and the property line 50 that no more than 25% of the antenna extends above the top of the screening material. 6. The antennna shall be located at least four feet from any property line. 7. No more than one satellite television antenna shall be permitted per lot. II. COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL ZONES Commercial and industrial zone restrictions. Satellite television antennas shall be considered as accessory to the main structure and shall be permitted in all commercial and industrial zones subject to the following limitations: 1. Ground mounted antenna. A. Ground mounted antenna shall be located in the rear 50% of the lot. S. The antenna shall not exceed 20 feet in height. C. The antenna shall not be used as a sign or contain any advertising copy. D. The antenna shall be screened from adjacent properties and public view by a wall, fence, hedge, or other appropriate plant or landscape line so that no more than 25% of the antenna extends above the top of the screening material. E. The antenna shall not be located in any required parking area. 2. Roof mounted antenna may be permitted subject to the follow~ng limitations. A. Roof mounted antennas shall not exceed 15 feet in height provided, however, that in no event shall the antenna extend more than 5 feet above the permitted height of building upon which it is located. B. Roof mounted antenna shall be screened by recessing the antenna into the roof line or by constructing a screen out of similarly textured roofing or exterior wall material as the structure upon which it is located so that the antenna is not vi.sible at ground level. 3. No more than one satellite television antenna shall be permitted per lot provided, however that additional antennas may be permitted by the Planning Director if there are more than one use on a lot which cannot f-easibly be served by a single antenna. 4. The provisions of this subsection shall apply to hotels and motels located in residential zones. 5. The provis{ons of this subsection shall not apply to satellite television antenna used by and located upon the property of a commercial cable television operator franchised by the City •. III. Exception planned unit developments and condominiums. Provisions of this section shall apply to resid9ntial planned developments, planned unit developments or condominiums provided, however, that roof mounted antenna may be allowed as part of the planned development permit for the project. IV. Agricultural zone restrictions. Satellite television antennas shall be considered as accessory to the main structure or use on the property and shall be permitted subject to the following limita~ions: 1 • The antenna shall be ground mounted. 2. The antenna shall be located at least four feet from any property line. 3. The antenna shall not exceed 20 feet in height. 4. The antenna shall be screened from public view by a wall, fence, hedge, or other appropriate plant or land~cape material between the antenna and the property line so that no more than 25% of th~ antenna is visible above the scraening material. V. Public utility zone restrictions. Satellite television antennas shall be considered a permitted accessory use in the pubic utility zones. -2- VI. VII. VIII. IX. • Nonconforming antennas. Any satellite television antenna erected pri~r to the effective date of this ordinance shall be brought into compliance with the provisions of this section no later than one year after the effective date of this ordinance. Whenever a discretionary permit is required for constructio'n of a project, the satellite antenna permit may be consolidated with the discretionary pe~mit. Redevelopment zone: A redevelopment permit issued pur~uant to Chapter 21.35 shall be required for any satellite television antenna located in the Vill.age Redevelopment Zone. In addition to complying wit.h the provisions of this section all satellite television antennas in the Village Redevelopment Zone shall conform to the provisions of the Village Design Manual. Satellite Antenna size, placement and location shall be constructed according to details shown on Exhibit "A", dated November 20; 1989. 2.. As detailed in Exhibit "B", dated November 20, 1989, and on file in the Planning Department, satellite screening shaH consist of chain link fencing on all four (4) sides at II height necessary to screen the satellite antenna. The chain link fence shall include 80% density mesh that is similar in color and is compatible with the exterior wall material of the structure on which it is located. 3. The Satellite Antenna shall not be used for any advertising purposes. Please call your staff planner, Anne Hysong, at 438-1161 when the satellite and screening materials are installed so final inspection can be made.
