HomeMy WebLinkAboutSDU 99-29; Centerstone at Tamarack Lot 2; Second Dwelling Unit (SDU) (10)( 1 of 1) a/9/99 To: Paul Godwin, Planning Department From: Debra Bodine Re: CenterStone at Tamarack second dwelling requesfs As best I can determine there will be from 17-18 homes built on this property across the street from me. I object to the request for second dwelllng units on two lots at Chinquapin, because I am not satisfied at this point that they will have adequate garage space for the cars that will accompany 17-18 families. In addition this density is not consistent with the neighborhood immediately surrounding this project and will compromise the quality of life for the people nearby. Regardless, the Planning Department's letter would seem to be more of a formality than an actual request for input from the neighborhood, since the framework for plumbing and electric for all of these homes has been in at least since I received my letter. Obviously, it's a done deal whether the residents of this neighborhood have objections or not. As it is, some parts of Chinquapin are already impacted by overflow parking from the condos on either end. In addition, speeding is an issue many of the neighbors have complained about repeatedly (again, mostly from people going to and from the condo complexes). This neighborly, and otherwise quiet, cul-de-sac street is a popular walking path for lots of people and home to children, pets and old people all of whom will be put in jeopardy by the increased traffio--especially if the speeding is allowed to continue. I think its a shame that the Planning Department of Carlsbad doesn't do more to protect the quality of life that is drawing people to Carlsbad. After all, the housing boom won't last unless the quality of life that is attracting people in the first place is protected. Dense housing constructed with no sense of fitting in with the surrounding neighborhood may sell now (we'll see), but will likely devalue as the new house luster wears off and this development is exposed for what it is--overcrowded and as far as I've seen in planning , meeting sketches--ugly!
