CALiFORrs/iA December 4, 1998 Mr. Don Rideout City ofCarlsbad 2075 Las Palmas Drive Carlsbad CA 92009-1576 Subject: Proposal for LEGO Drive Street Name Change Dear Mr. Rideout: LEGOLAND would like to request that the City of Carlsbad change the current name of LEGO Drive to "LEGOLAND Drive". During preparation of the Tentative Map for the Carlsbad Ranch, the name "LEGO Drive" was selected for convenience purposes at that time to identify the name of the street that would access the LEGOLAND park. Subsequent to the map, the City and LEGO entered into a Development Agreement regarding the park. One issue addressed in the agreement was the name of LEGO Drive, wherein the City agreed to rename LEGO Drive to LEGOLAND Drive. Section 3.1.4.12 of the Development Agreement states: "3.1.4.12 LEGO Drive. City agrees that the street designated as such in the Map of Parcel 18 may be named "Legoland Drive" or similar name." The name "LEGOLAND Drive" will be consistent with the name ofthe park, "LEGOLAND." It is in the best interest of the City and LEGOLAND to ensure that the park visitor finds his way easily and directly to the park During the entitlement process for LEGOLAND, the City Council was clear in their intention that traffic circulation to the park be as well planned as possible so as to avoid any unnecessary confusion or misdirected traffic on to other surrounding streets, such as Palomar Airport Road. Renaming LEGO Drive will further strengthen this resolve. We would be pleased to discuss this proposal with you in more detail and look forward to your positive response.
