the completed sign for review by the Housing and Redevelopment Department.

Please attach a site plan to this permit application which indicates the exact location for the
proposed sidewaik/freestanding sign. This site plan must also include a north arrow and
scale and indicate the location ofthe business in relationship to the location ofthe sign, the
amount of street frontage for the business, the width of the sidewalk in front of the
business, the locations of driveways, parking spaces, curb cuts for handicap access to the
public sidewalks, alleys and/or streets. See application checklist for additional
requirements.

Certification Statement: I Certify that I am the Legal Business Owner of the subject business and that all of the
above information is true and correct to the best of my knowledge. I agree to accept and abide by any conditions placed
on the subject sign permit as a result of approval of this application. I agree to indemnify, hold harmless, and defend the
City of Carisbad and the Carisbad Redevelopment Agency or its officers or employees from all claims, damage or
liability to persons or property arising from or caused by the installation ofthe subject sidewaik/freestanding sign on the
public sidewalk pursuant to this permit unless the damage or liability was caused by the sole active negligence of the
City or its officers or employees. I have submitted a Certificate of Insurance to the City of Carisbad in the amount of $1
million which lists the City of Carisbad and the Carisbad Redevelopment Agency as "additional insured". This Certificate
shall remain in effect for as long as the sidewaik/freestanding sign is placed within the public right-of-way. This
agreement is a condition ofthe issuance ofthis permit for the subject sidewaik/freestanding sign to be placed on the
public right-of-way. I understand that an approved sidewaik/freestanding sign permit shall remain in effect for as long as
sidewaik/freestanding signs are permitted within the Village Redevelopment Area and the permittee remains in
compliance with the subject approved permit. I also understand that the Housing and Redevelopment Commission may
conduct an annual review ofthe applicable sign regulations for sidewaik/freestanding signs and reserves the right to
modify or eliminate the regulations which currently allow for these signs.

PLAN SUBMITTAL REOUIREMENTS
Two sets of the following plans shall be submitted with one copy of this applicarion form:
1. A site plan showing: The locarion of the sign and business it serves, and any adjoining streets,
driveways, doorways, fire and handicap access.
2. An elevarion showing: Exterior dimensions of the sign; sign materials; proposed sign copy; and colors.
The plans, completed applicarion forms including all signatures and the application fee can be submitted to
the Planning Depanment located at 2075 Las Palmas Drive, Carlsbad, CA 92009, prior to 4 pm.

Qrdinapct Standards (mandatory)

Maximum width of three feet and a maximum height of five feet.
Signs must be either square or rectangular.
Signs must be of a durable matenal. and shall be kept, clean, oeatly pamted, and m good repair.

Gtiiddines These guidelines are to assist the sign designer and compliment the tnandatory ordinance standards. They are
rntended to encourage a high level of design quaiity while aiso providmg flexibility to encourage creative design,
• 1. The sign design should be simple and easy to read. Use a bnef message. Tbe fewer the words, the more effecuve
the stgn. A simple sign wuh a bnef message is faster to read, looks cleaner, and is more effecuve. Usmg overly
mtncate type facet or mixmg typefaces oo ooe sign also makes it ayort difficult to read quickly and reduces the sign's
ability to communicate.
• 2. Use a durable matenal such as MDO (Medium Density Overlay) plywood or similar wood-like oiatenal. Signs must
have a sumed or pamted surface fuush.
• 3. The background color for ail signs should be white.
• 4. Tbe text should be in 3 colors oniy (too many colors compete with content for the viewen attention). Fluoresceot or
Day-Glo colors are not accepuble.
• S. If a umque busmess logo is proposed, it's color shall not count as ooe of the three text colors. (Item 4 above).
• 6. Changeable text areas should comply with the above cntena (1-5) and should occupy no more than 50% of the sign
face. Paper or oon-ngid changeable areas are oot acceptable.
