RE: Current Insurance Certificate for an A-Frame Sign
Dear Ms Lilinthal:
Our records indicate that you were issued Permit #97-02 for an A-Frame Sign
that is located within the public right-of-way. An ongoing requirement of the
permit is that you maintain a valid certificate of insurance for the item(s) within
the public right-of-way naming the City of Carlsbad and the Carlsbad
Redevelopment Agency as additional insured.
This is a courtesy notice to inform you that the certificate of insurance we
currently have on file is due to expire on October 1, 2002. If you would like to
continue to display the A-Frame Sign within the public right-of-way, please have
your insurance carrier forward to us an updated insurance certificate within 10
business days of the expiration date. Otherwise, the A-Frame Sign must be
removed from the public right-of-way.

Dear Sir or Madam:
Our records indicate that you were issued Permit #97-02 for an A-Frame Sign that is
located in the public right-of-way. A requirement of the permit is that the City of
Carlsbad and the Carlsbad Redevelopment Agency be listed as Additional Insured on
your insurance policy. The most recent certificate of insurance on file expires or expired
on 10/01/2002. If the certificate of insurance on file has not yet expired, please ask your
insurance provider to ensure that a new certificate is sent to us upon renewal. If there is
no certificate of insurance on file or if it has expired, please submit a current certificate of
insurance within ten davs (10). If a current certificate of insurance is not received by the
Carlsbad Redevelopment Agency, your permit may be revoked and/or the A-Frame Sign
may be confiscated by Code Enforcement.

Subject: Approval of Sidewalk Sign Permit
Dear Ms. Lilinthall
Thank you for submitting your application for a Sidewalk Sign Permit. Your application
has been approved. Attached is a copy of the approved Sidewalk Sign Permit for your
records.
The attached permit allows you to retain your sign for, 1) as long as the Housing and
Redevelopment Commission allows sidewalk signs to remain, 2) as long as the sign
continues to meet the standards outlined within the Carlsbad Village Master Plan and
Design Manual, and 3) as long as the sign is consistent with this permit approval. It is
important to note that the Housing and Redevelopment Commission will complete an
annual review of the sidewalk sign regulations to determine their continued applicability.

Display of Mannequin or silhouette sign
As requested, I have researched the regulations related to signs and determined that there is no
exception which can be given by city staff for the display of your mannequin or silhouette. In
an effort to help you, I thought maybe you might want to display a free-standing sign which
looks something like the attached drawing. This hopefully would catch the eye like the
mannequin or silhouette did. The Grand Deli says their sign works really well for them. You
could have this type of sign by simply filing an application with me - no fee. Let me know what
you want to do.
I know you want the mannequin or silhouetee but I can't approve it (per my bosses!).

you to retain your sign until January 1, 1995 as long as it continues to meet the sign standards as outlined
within City Ordinance Section 21.41 and is consistent with this permit approval.
