I agree to indemnify, hold harmless, and defend the City of Carlsbad and the Carlsbad Redevelopment Agency or its officers or employees from all claims, damage or liability to persons or property arising from or caused by the installation of the subject sidewaik/freestanding sign on the public sidewalk pursuant to this permit unless the damage or liability was caused by the sole active negligence of the City or its officers or employees. I have submitted a Certificate of Insurance to the City of Carlsbad in the amount of $1 million which lists the City of Carlsbad and the Carlsbad Redevelopment Agency as "additional insured". This Certificate shall remain in effect for as long as the sidewaik/freestanding sign is placed within the public right-of-way. This agreement is a condition ofthe issuance ofthis permit for the subject sidewaik/freestanding sign to be placed on the public right-of-way. I understand that an approved sidewaik/freestanding sign permit shall remain in effect for as long as sidewaik/freestanding signs are permitted within the Village Redevelopment Area and the permittee remains in compliance with the subject approved permit. Guideline^ These guidelines are to assist the sign designer and compliment the mandatory ordinance standards. They are intended to encourage a high level of design quality while aiso providmg flexibility to encourage creative design. • 1. The sign design should be simple and easy to read. L'se a brief message. The fewer the words, the more effective the sign. A simple sign wiU} a bnef message is faster to read, looks cleaner, and is more effecuve. Usmg overiy mtncate type faces or mixmg typefaces on one sign also makes it n>ore difficult to read quickly and reduces the sign's ability to communicate. • 2. Use a durable matenal such as MDO (Medium Density Overlay) plywood or similar wood-like matenal. Signs must have a sumed or pamted surface finish. • 3. The background color for all signs should be white. • 4. The text should be m 3 colors only (too many colors compete with content for the viewers attentioo).
