Venue Feasibility Study & Market Survey Update

Carlsbad
Memo ID# 2019054
This memorandum provides an update on the Venue Feasibility Study & Market Survey, one of the
first initiatives of the Arts & Culture Master Plan undertaken this year.
As mentioned in the presentation to the City Council on May 7, Webb Management Services was
selected to conduct the study and will be on-site Monday, June 2, through Wednesday, June 4, to
interview community stakeholders and local arts organizations. We have scheduled individual City
Council members to meet with the consultant (in-person or telephone interviews) on June 4.
Duncan Webb of Webb Management Services and Victoria Plettner-Saunders of Wolf Brown (a
local subcontractor with Webb) will conduct these local interviews. This team was selected for its
extensive experience with other municipal venue feasibility studies and regional knowledge.
In the Arts & Culture Master Plan approved last year, the first initiative of the Top Ten was the
venue feasibility study and . market survey; this effort aligns with the number one response from
community surveys, interviews and focus groups. Webb Management Services will focus efforts on
the following:
• Assessing interest and needs for a venue;
• Analyzing existing venues in North County, and;
• Developing additional information parallel to the current City Hall site selection process.
Here is the timeline for the work to be completed by Webb Management Services:
• May: Market research, interview preparation and venue site visits
• June 3-5: Interviews with the City Council, city leadership and community stakeholders
• July8: Draft report delivered
• July 30: Finalize report
• August: Present results to the City Council and Arts Commission as requested
