Memo ID# 2019071
With summer approaching, work is beginning in earnest on our annual State of the City events.
The purpose of this memo is to preview the content proposed for this year's video and provide
· an overview of the two events where it will be shown.
Background
The annual State of the City video is an opportunity to share with the community major
proj~cts and initiatives from the past year as well as previewing those planned for the year·
ahead. The video is used for a variety of purposes, including to inform and engage the
community, to support the city's economic development and talent attraction efforts, and for
recruiting and onboarding our own employees ..
In the past, the main way to see the video following its initial showings in the community was
on the city's cable channel. Today, it is also shared on the city's YouTube channel and qther
social media, as well as being available on demand directly from the city's website. To appeal to
the wider audiences who now have access to the State of the City video, the format has
changed in recent years to be shorter with more graphics and fewer traditional interviews.
These changes have increased viewership while still allowing the video to serve as the
centerpiece for two events drawing a combined total of nearly 700 people.
Video Content
The 2019 State of the City video explores the many connections and interrelated parts that
make up a city and a community. Highlights will include projects and initiatives in the following
areas:
· • Environmental sustainability
• Mobility
• Public safety
• Economic development
• Community engagement and partnerships
• Smart city initi.atives ·
• City's fiscal health and budget
