Background The main lobby at City Hall currently serves the offices of the City Council and the City Manager. Guests, staff and various service providers frequently use the main lobby area as they wait to meet with staff and City Council Members. The Police Department has conducted a security review of city facilities and has recommended security enhancements for this location. Discussion In an effort to provide a safe, professional, and comfortable experience for all users of the main lobby area, city staff from the General Services Department of the Public Works Branch will be implementing and overseeing safety improvements recommended by the Police Department to enhance this area at City Hall. Some of the upcoming improvements will include the following: • Extension of current lobby wall heights • Addition of secured access and entryways • Modification of reception desk • Replacement of the glass mural wall with a drywall wall and new mural • Addition of Americans with Disabilities Act {ADA) features at reception desk City offices and services within City Hall will remain open during implementation of these improvements. Construction work is primarily planned to occur before and after operating hours and on weekends, to minimize impacts to staff and visitors during normal business hours. Next Steps Construction activity related to these improvements is expected to be initiated during summer 2019, and is estimated to be completed by the end of calendar year 2019.
