Background On Oct. 8, 2019, an SDG&E representative provided notification to the city of an upcoming fiber optic project (Project) scheduled to enter the City of Carlsbad from the City of Oceanside. Approximately eight. miles of fiber optic wire will be installed on existing infrastructure for the San Luis Rey Substation (near south EJ'Camino Real at Mesa Drive) to the Encina Substation (corner of Cannon Road and Avenida Encinas). Discussion -r SDG&_E is currently install_ing fiber optic wiring between designated substations to help improve electric system protection and reliability. Work related to the Project was initiated in September 2019, and SDG&E has indicated that they have obtained all the necessary approvals and permits to proceed with the Project_. SDG&E has mailed a courtesy letter to customers within 300-ft of the project, to provide awareness to residents of the work taking place. For more information, SDG&E has provided a copy of the Project fact sheet (see Attachment A). Next Steps SDG&E anticipates finishing the Project by November 2019. City staff will continue to provide Project updates to the City Council as they are available. Attachment: A. As part of our ongoing commitment to provide our customers the safest and most reliable energy infrastructure, SDG&E® is installing fiber optic wiring between designated · substations to help improve electric system protection and reliability. Although not anticipated, our work may require us to shut off the power for safety purposes. If so, we'll contact you in advance to help make sure you're prepared for a planned outage. A ~ Sempra Energy utility® Fiber optic wiring installation will help improve electric system protection and reliability. · Project schedule Start date: Late September 2019 End date: November 2019 Day work is scheduled to take place Monday through Saturday from 7:00 a.m. -7:00 p.m. What to expect We anticipate this project will take approximately two to three months for SDG&E crews to complete the installation of the fiber optic wiring. During the project, you may experience some traffic congestion. Construction will take place primarily within existing SDG&E right- of-way and easements. We will work as safely and quickly as possible and do our very best to minimize disruptions such as construction traffic and noise aJong roadways.
