Please note, this memo focuses on actions and information that are new since the last update. Emergency Operations Center • Emergency Operations Center activated to support COVID-19 mitigation and response operations and information sharing. Regional status of outbreak San Diego County • County public health officials have extended the county’s public health order indefinitely. The new order, which was set to expire March 31, consolidates all of the directives from the original order and its amendments. California (as of March 27 at 2 p.m.) Confirmed cases 4643 Increase from day before 842 Deaths 101 San Diego County (as of March 28 at 4 p.m.) Confirmed cases 488 Increase from day before 71 Deaths 7 Carlsbad (as of March 28 at 8 a.m.) Confirmed cases 19 Change from day before 1 CORONAVIRUS ACTIONS March 29, 2020 Page 2 Police Department • A large number of officers continue to provide social distancing education in the city’s most-trafficked areas and remind people not to gather. Officers have not had to issue any citations for non-compliance. Parks & Recreation • People are removing signs and caution tape at many trails and north beach stairways. Staff is replacing as needed. Communication & Engagement • Created and shared the following with the public on city communication channels: o Update of latest COVID-19 case numbers o Recap of the county news conference and numbers/charts o County health order extended o Package delivery safety o Warning not to ingest chloroquine phosphate (aquarium product) o Library at home resources o Ideas for projects to do at home • Created and shared the following videos: o News updates • Live-tweeted: o County of San Diego’s daily COVID-19 update • Prepared Instagram story on social distancing helping infection rates. • Promoted social media hashtag #Care4Carlsbad with images of local residents doing the right things. • Updated city website with new county health order and new case numbers. • Prepared and produced 15 Lower Sea Wall Closed signs. • Responded to 24 questions and comments on the city’s social media platforms and Communication & Engagement department’s email.
