Please note, this memo focuses on actions and information that are new since the last update. Emergency Operations Center • Emergency Operations Center activated to support COVID-19 mitigation and response operations and information sharing. o Weekend monitoring of health order compliance o Community engagement planning o Responding to community queries Regional status of outbreak (all data from April 4 at 5 p.m.) (Note: Data in yesterday’s memo was from April 3, not April 2) California Confirmed cases 12,603 Increase from day before 1,209 Deaths 282 San Diego County Confirmed cases 1,209 Increase from day before 96 Deaths 18 Carlsbad Confirmed cases 39 Change from day before 2 CORONAVIRUS ACTIONS April 5, 2020 Page 2 Fire Department • Transported a patient to a hospital who was later confirmed to be COVID-19 positive. This was the department’s first confirmed COVID-19 case involving symptom treatment and transport. Firefighters were wearing protective equipment. Police Department • Continued high-profile weekend enforcement of the stay-at-home public health orders along trails and at the parks and beaches. Officers have not had to issue any citations. Parks & Recreation • Began development of a cross-departmental committee to establish and encourage new and creative methods to serve, engage and involve residents who are at home because of the state’s stay-at-home order. The committee will include staff from Parks & Recreation, Library & Cultural Arts, Environmental Services, Communication & Engagement, Human Resources and potentially other departments. Communication & Engagement • Created and shared the following with the public on city communication channels: o County of San Diego’s stay at home pledge o 2-1-1 resources o Links to live state and county news conferences o How to get health insurance o New California program for seniors o Small Business Administration loans o State beach closures o Updated COVID-19 case numbers o Updated rules on face coverings and resources to make them • Updated main COVID-19 webpage: o New page on masks o New page for how to volunteer and donate o Added new resources to various pages • Responded to 12 questions and comments on the city’s social media platforms and Communication & Engagement department’s email. • Created updated Zoom backgrounds and meeting set up guidelines for use by City Council and boards and commissions.
