Please note, this memo focuses on actions and information that are new since the last update. Emergency Operations Center • Emergency Operations Center activated to support COVID-19 mitigation and response operations and information sharing. • Coordinating issue of city supplied face coverings to specified essential staff. Regional status of outbreak (all data from April 5 at 5 p.m.) Fire Department • Twice-a-week deep cleaning of the city’s six fire stations and their fire equipment and apparatus begins today. • Issued a memo to firefighters on using facial coverings while in public outside of service calls. • Evaluating the usage rate of protective masks to make sure supplies remain adequate. The first two citations were issued to two people who were found in a city park and refused to comply. They were cited under the Carlsbad Municipal Code for entering a public park posted with closed signs. • A comparison of calls for service from a week before the COVID-19 public health measures and a week after they were implemented showed that overall calls were down by almost 13%. 2/28 -3/12/20 3/12-3/26/20 Change Dispatched calls 2,303 2,123 -7.80% Officer-initiated 1,853 1,502 -18.90% Total 4,156 3,625 -12.80% Parks & Recreation • Launched a call for community members who sew and would be willing to make face coverings. Finalizing the process to further promote the effort and the protocols for pick up and drop off to ensure proper health protections are in place. • Issued city supplied face coverings to staff helping to package, pick up and deliver meals for the senior nutrition meal program.
