Please note, this memo focuses on actions and information that are new since the last update. Emergency Operations Center • Emergency Operations Center activated to support COVID-19 mitigation and response operations and information sharing. • Distributed face masks to on-site city staff. • Conducted CERT bi-monthly meeting using Zoom, with 85 participants. Regional status of outbreak (all data from April 8 at 5 p.m.) California Confirmed cases 17,803 Increase from day before 1,374 Deaths 453 San Diego County Confirmed cases 1,530 Increase from day before 76 Deaths 36 Carlsbad Confirmed cases 43 Change from day before 1 CORONAVIRUS ACTIONS April 9, 2020 Page 2 Police Department • Officers have issued five citations to people violating the Carlsbad Municipal Code by being on closed trails and in closed parks, bringing the total so far to seven. o Four were issued on the trail on the north side of the Agua Hedionda Lagoon just east of Carlsbad Boulevard. Officers have been providing extra patrols in the area for the past week because people have been parking at the south end of Garfield Street and using the closed trail to walk to Carlsbad Boulevard. o One was issued to someone found in Alga Norte Park despite the closures Fire Department • Beginning to outfit brushfire engines with COVID-19- specific personal protective equipment in anticipation of fire season and the unique challenges that large fires could bring in minimizing exposure to firefighters. Human Resources • Distributed guidelines on facial coverings to all city employees. • Drafting a frequently asked questions guide for employees who are displaying symptoms of the virus. Status of employees with possible COVID-19 exposure Cleared to return to work 30 Self-quarantined due to contact with someone who may have COVID-19 1 Self-quarantined due to symptoms, have not been tested 1 Parks & Recreation • Provided staff support and several canopies for a COVID-19 food donation drive held at Carlsbad High School (at right). CERT volunteers assisted. • At the request from the Carlsbad High School staff, began installing secondary cable closures on the pedestrian gates to athletic fields and courts on school sites within the city-district joint use agreement.
