Please note, this memo focuses on actions and information that are new since the last update. Emergency Operations Center • Emergency Operations Center activated to support COVID-19 mitigation and response operations and information sharing. • Conducted bi-weekly teleconference with CUSD officials, discussed Sage Creek High School Grocery Grab project assisting Carlsbad seniors. • Many jurisdictions and agencies scaled back COVID-19 monitoring and reporting on Sunday. • Community social media commenting on COVID-19 continued to decrease from previous weeks. Regional status of outbreak (all data from April 12 at 5 p.m.) California Confirmed cases 22,439 Increase from day before 957 Deaths 635 San Diego County Confirmed cases 1,804 Increase from day before 43 Deaths 45 Carlsbad Confirmed cases 48 Change from day before 0 CORONAVIRUS ACTIONS April 13, 2020 Page 2 Police Department • Officers continued conducting noticeable patrols at beaches, parks and trails to educate people about the public health orders and enforce them as needed. Two additional citations were issued, along the trail just east of Carlsbad Boulevard and north of the Agua Hedionda Lagoon, bringing the citywide total to ten. Library & Cultural Arts • Created and posted art projects and activities that anyone can do from home, including art lesson plans, public art coloring pages, new visual arts projects, and theatre, poetry and other art activities. • Launching LibChat, an online chat service that lets community members connect with library staff members for library services, research and information. Human Resources Status of employees with possible COVID-19 exposure Cleared to return to work 31 Self-quarantined due to contact with someone who may have COVID-19 1 Self-quarantined due to symptoms, have not been tested 2 Communication & Engagement • Created and shared the following with the public on city communication channels: o Video compilation of the City Council’s comments to the community from April 7 meeting o Reminder to stay at home and wear face covering when going out for essential activities o Tips for seniors to live well while staying at home o Enforcement at beaches and trails o COVID-19 topics for next City Council meeting o Indoor activities for dogs on National Pet Day o Recap of April 11 county news conference o Mental health resources and signs of stress o Springtime virtual scavenger hunt o Virtual tour of latest exhibit at the Cannon Art Gallery o Online library resources o New online survey to identify community needs and priorities related to the COVID- 19 emergency o Food resources map o Examples of the community and neighborhoods supporting each other • Updated city’s COVID-19 webpage: o Updated case data o Latest joint communication email to businesses • Updated COVID-19 staff resource webpage: CORONAVIRUS ACTIONS April 13, 2020 Page 3 o Latest employee emails o Recordings of wellness webinars • Distributed joint communication email #6 to Carlsbad businesses. • Responded to 15 questions and comments on the city’s social media platforms and Communication & Engagement department’s email.
