This memo focuses on actions and information that are new since the last update. Emergency Operations Center • Emergency Operations Center activated to support COVID-19 mitigation and response operations and information sharing. Regional status of outbreak (All data from May 12 at 5 p.m.) California County Carlsbad Confirmed cases 71,082 5,278 66 Increase from day before 1,665 117 3 Deaths 2,882 194 n/a Human Resources • Developing COVID-19 screening protocols and procedures in response to the recent update to the county health order. The update requires temperature screening of all employees entering the workplace, or symptom screening if a thermometer is not available) Status of employees with possible COVID-19 exposure Cleared from COVID-19 42 Self-quarantined while waiting for test results 1 Public Works • Added five more hands-free walk signals yesterday, for a total of 17 intersections with no-touch signals at crosswalks. The intersections are at Carlsbad Boulevard at Cannon Road, Poinsettia Lane, Island Way and Avenida Encinas, and at La Costa Avenue at Rancho Santa Fe Road. • Added eight temporary ADA parking spaces in the Ocean Street parking lot yesterday, bringing the total in the lot to 11 ADA spaces. Police Department • Officers issued two more COVID-19-related parking citations yesterday. The total since May 4 is 59. Communication & Engagement • Created and shared the following with the public on city communication channels: o State’s reopening stages infographic o Tips to support mental health o Thermo Fisher’s role in fighting COVID-19 o Virtual classes for National Bike Month o Leo Carrillo’s #NatureWhereImParked challenge o Family movie night@home schedule o Master sports video o Poinsettia Fire anniversary • Prepared and distributed daily email update from the city: o Extension of declaration of local emergency o Status of the reopening process o Hierarchy of city, county and state rules o Updated dashboard of what’s open and closed, including modifications o Detailed dashboard of businesses in each of the state’s four stages of reopening o Guidance for restaurants to reopen o Latest case information including Carlsbad specific data o Additional “no touch” crosswalk signals and new disabled parking available o Housing Element advisory committee meeting o Virtual bike to work day for National Bike Month o Leo Carrillo’s history mystery at home engagement activity • Sent out eblast to Carlsbad businesses o State guidance on additional businesses that can open o Reminder of requirements for businesses as they reopen • Updated COVID-19 webpages: o Posted new map of touchless pedestrian traffic signals with 5 new locations o Posted updated dashboard of what’s opened and closed o Added additional virtual programming to city events calendar o Added links to latest state and county news releases • Responded to 12 questions and comments on the city’s social media platforms and Communication & Engagement Department’s email.
