This memo focuses on actions and information that are new since the last update. Emergency Operations Center • Emergency Operations Center activated to support COVID-19 mitigation and response operations and information sharing. Regional status of outbreak (All data from May 17 at 5 p.m.) California County Carlsbad Confirmed cases 78,860 5,836 71 Increase from Friday’s memo 5,687 445 2 Deaths 3,208 209 n/a Community outreach • CERT volunteers delivered 1,250 face masks to Carlsbad residential care facilities Friday afternoon. • Over the weekend, CERT volunteers handed out 3,350 face masks along the sea wall walk to promote public health and continued beach access: CORONAVIRUS ACTIONS May 18, 2020 Page 2 Parks & Recreation • Staff provided the 10,000th meal through the senior meal since the city began its COVID- 19 pandemic response. Parks & Recreation staff mark the milestone, while practicing social distancing Human Resources Status of employees with possible COVID-19 exposure: Cleared of COVID-19 43 Communication & Engagement • Created and shared the following with the public on city communication channels: o Preview of City Council meeting agenda items including an update on COVID-19 response o Statements on vandalism o Thank you video to Sew2Care volunteers o Celebration of serving 10,000 senior meals since the start of the COVID-19 emergency o Great Plates Delivered new home program for seniors o County’s aging hotline and support for older adults o National Bike Month virtual classes o Hot Rods and Cool Treats virtual event o Family movie night at home schedule o Theater activities for the art at home project o Master Sports videos for developing skills at home o Camps@Home virtual schedule • Prepared and distributed daily email update from the city: o County’s milestone of hitting 4,000 tests per day o Explanation of the “14-day rolling percentage” and its importance o Latest case numbers CORONAVIRUS ACTIONS May 18, 2020 Page 3 o Air Force Thunderbirds schedule to honor COVID-19 responders o Great Plates Delivered program for senior meals o Honoring high school seniors o Weekend reminders about what’s open and closed • Drafted and distributed email newsletter to seniors: o Great Plates Delivered senior home meal service o Wellness Wednesday resources and schedule o Thank you video to Sew2Care volunteers o Senior health and wellness classes on city’s cable channel o Grandfriends pen pal program o Carlsbad Play@Home activities • Replied to two COVID-19-related council inquiries • Responded to 20 questions and comments on the city’s social media platforms and Communication & Engagement Department’s email.
